When Andy Warhol arrived in new York from Pittsburgh, in the early 1950's, he had no money, no name recognition, and few acquaintances. He did however have a keen sensibility, a fresh eye, and plenty of ambition. He quickly earned considerable distinction for his whimsical and lithe illustrations, which graced the pages of a variety of lifestyle magazines including Ladies Home Journal. Fanciful shoes, bouquets of spring posies, and napping cats are familiar motifs from this early period of Warhol's work.
